Barclays employee Pauline Bevan recently organised a Strawberry Tea at her home at Sunnymead to raise funds for Rhossili Village Hall. With the help of Village Hall Committee Members £1,004 was raised on the day. These monies raised were matched £ for £ up to £750 as part of the Barclays Community Investment Programme and so £1,754 was handed over to the Committee.

Miss Bevan has held a Strawberry Tea at her home for the last four years and during this time has been able to hand over to the Rhossili Village Hall Committee with the support of Barclays over £6,000. Miss Bevan said that "this extra funding over the years by Barclays has been greatly appreciated by the local community of Rhossili, as extra equipment was needed for the new kitchen when the new bunkhouse facility was built".

Jenny King, Community Manager, a spokesman for Barclays said “At Barclays we strive to strengthen local communities in which we live and work by supporting a range of causes from local schools to centres for older people. This is a fantastic example of Barclays staff fundraising with the local community to achieve something which we hope will make a real and lasting difference.

At Barclays we take our responsibilities seriously. We’re really proud of our leading community investments programme, which added up to £46.5 million in 2006. Over 33,000 of our people were involved in fundraising or volunteering in their communities.

We support over 8,000 charities around the world. Over the last 5 years Barclays people have raised £54 million for their favourite charities with our help and match funding".

John Furneaux, Chairman of Rhossili Village Hall Committee, said on the day that it was "a fantastic achievement and the monies raised will go towards further equipment needed in the new kitchen".
